10 movies we can't wait for in 2019

2018 was a whirlwind, but we still got some epic movies out of the madness. 

2019 promises the same, with pivotal sequels, live-action reboots, books adapted for the screen – and new, original movies that might just blow us away.

'Black Mirror: Bandersnatch' doesn't work on Apple TV and users are furious

It may be a groundbreaking high-tech piece of TV entertainment, but the interactive Black Mirror movie Bandersnatch is off limits if you happen to be using the highest-rated high-tech TV setup.

That would be the Apple TV, the 4K model of which we recently rated not only the most essential set-top box but also the most ahead-of-the-pack product Apple currently makes. (Many users agreed.)

Bandersnatch is also unavailable on Google's Chromecast and Amazon's Fire Stick. Try to watch it on these platforms and what you'll get instead of the two-plus hour storyline is a 2-minute supercut of Black Mirror characters from other episodes saying "sorry." Elon Musk's Twitter in 2018: Lawsuits, dank memes, and 'funding secured'

What better way to really understand Elon Musk's year as Tesla CEO than to look back at his Twitter. It's been a bumpy and very busy year for the electric car executive. He went from the depths of despair to turning a profit for Tesla for the first time — with a few lawsuits and scathing news reports thrown in for good measure. He even took a few puffs of marijuana on a podcast.

His most famous tweet of 2018? 

Am considering taking Tesla private at $420. Funding secured.

That led to a U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) lawsuit and possible criminal investigation. In his settlement (which cost him $20 million and Tesla another $20 million), he was removed as chairman of the board and his tweeting is now under close watch. A game from 'Black Mirror: Bandersnatch' is playable now

If Black Mirror: Bandersnatch wasn't unsettling or meta enough for you, the show's team snuck in another layer of gameplay: an actual Tuckersoft Games website. You can peruse the company's history (which you'll be familiar with if you watched Bandersnatch) and explore its game titles – all of which reference other Black Mirror episodes.

Perhaps the sneakiest goody on the site is that you can actually play Nohzdyve, the game Colin (Will Poulter) is working on. But there's a significant catch. 

The .tap file containing the game can only be played by downloading a ZS Spectrum Emulator – a program that mimics the OS of a personal computer from the 1980s' Bandersnatch eraFuse, Qaop, or Speccy are some potential emulators, but they only work on certain computers or operating systems (one of the only Mac-compatible downloads I found wouldn't open because it was from an unidentified developer). Kid takes a bite out of a hot pickle and self-destructs

Hot pickles should be eaten cautiously, with plenty of preparation in the event of extreme sourness and heat.

Not every little kid knows that. Twitter user @iamlaurans recently fed a hot pickle to her nephew who was begging to have a taste, only to have him collapse in agony.

Be careful what kind of pickle you wish for, folks.

@IamLaurans believes that her nephew's reaction wasn't all that exaggerated:

"He’s very dramatic, but the pickle was definitely hot!! Lol," she told Mashable.

Netflix releases viewership numbers for 'Bird Box' and holy crap

Netflix is notoriously cagey about audience statistics, but even the most secretive among us can't help bragging sometimes.

Following the release of the sci-fi thriller Bird Box, the company claimed in a tweet that a staggering 45 million accounts watched the film over its debut week.

According to Netflix, this is the best debut week for any of its films ever. It's worth pointing out that the 45 million number refers to accounts, not views or streams. Here’s why the New York City sky turned bright blue last night

A huge blue light flashed brightly over over the New York City skyline late Thursday night. New Yorkers filled social media with photos and videos of the phenomenon, which appeared to be centered over the borough of Queens. In short, people freaked out.

Con Edison quickly put everyone’s alien-conspiracy theories to bed. The utility company tweeted that what New Yorkers were seeing was the effect of a brief electrical fire that broke out at a substation in the Astoria neighborhood of Queens.

This daughter's prank involving Brussels sprouts will make you love pranks again

Christmas pranks are notoriously, unabashedly corny. Every once in a while, however, a Christmas prank comes along that's so good it makes you forget that nearly all pranks are bad.

I'm a particular fan of Twitter user Judy Brown's Christmas prank, which involves two of the most disgusting foods on earth: Ferrero Rocher chocolates (sorry) and Brussels sprouts (which are only good when roasted or fried).

Two years ago, as part of a Christmas prank, Brown switched out a Ferrero Rocher chocolate, a favorite of her father's, for a Brussels sprout.

Google's Android TV now has tens of millions of users and could soon have even more

Google's ongoing battle with Apple, Roku, and Amazon for your TV set is heating up.

Android TV, which is the search giant’s set-top box and smart TV platform, is currently used by more than tens of millions of consumers, according to the company. This is different from Google's Chromecast streaming device, which simply allows users to cast media from their smartphone to their TV set. Android TV is a full-fledged operating system that allows users to download apps and use other Google-powered services on their televisions.

The made-for-TV operating system is being utilized by more than 100 global pay TV operators, according to Google’s senior director of project management for Android TV, Shalini Govil-Pai. It's fine that the 'Us' trailer doesn't tell us much, or anything

On the first day of Christmas, Jordan Peele gave to the world the highly anticipated trailer for Us, his next horror film after the smash success of 2017's Get Out. 

On the second day of Christmas, a lot of people on the internet gave to us...a lot of hot takes on what the trailer revealed about the plot, the significance of the music used, what hints as to the movie's inevitable big twist might be, and more.

The thing about everyone going into detective mode on the Us trailer is that the trailer is intentionally vague, much more so than the first trailer for Get Out was. See two 'Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge' rides in action in Disney's latest trailer

Disney's blockbuster new Star Wars theme park attractions will be opening up in 2019, but you can sample two of them right now in this Christmas gift of a trailer.

Millennium Falcon: Smuggler's Run looks like a next-gen take on the classic Disney ride, Star Tours. Attendees apparently take control of different crew positions, depending on where they're sitting in the ride's mock-up of Han Solo's ship.

That's how it's been pitched, anyway. The few seconds we see in this trailer suggests a somewhat looser experience. Riders sit in an elongated version of the Falcon's cockpit, but the interactivity is seemingly limited to smacking button-laden panels set into each wall. Read more...

This hoverboarding priest is a Christmas gift to all

Priests do a little too much walking and not nearly enough hoverboarding nowadays. Thankfully, we have some priests who are willing to stand up for what's hip and correct the trend.

Twitter user Vynnlo's local priest recently hoverboarded into his Christmas Eve service, bringing peace and joy to everyone who watched the subsequent viral video.

Meet Sniffles, the wonderful noseless dog that's looking for a forever home

Meet Sniffles, the latest shelter dog that's captured the internet's heart.

Sniffles is a senior pooch, estimated to be about 12-years-old, looking for a new home in Chuluota, Florida, and he has one very unique characteristic: he has no nose.

Our boy Sniffles also has some crooked teeth to go along with his noseless face, which also causes a form of snorting from the little guy. 

Speaking to local news station WESH, Genesis Diaz, who's currently fostering Sniffles, talked about the dog's friendly demeanor: "This morning I woke up and he was at the edge of my bed, staring at me, and he ran over and did a little twirl and started licking my face."  Read more...

White Elephant gets a wild twist at this family's holiday party

Nothing tears families apart like an intense game of White Elephant, but this family takes things to another level of competition. 

Also known as Yankee Swap or Dirty Santa, every player has to bring a wrapped gift. The game has players either choose a random gift to unwrap, or steal an already unwrapped gift from someone else.

Since the point of White Elephant is to get rid of your junk acquired over the last year, gifts tend to be pretty impractical, and competition can get dicey. In Adrienne Young's family, though, players have to compete in a mini game if they want to steal someone else's gift.
