What bartenders think about that 'AI-powered' bar with facial recognition
The latest item to qualify in the "the Dystopian Future Is Now" category is a system that aims to help bartenders keep track of their customers with facial recognition and AI.
There's just one teensy problem: Bartenders are really, really not into it.
The British company DataSparQ announced the launch of the "A.I. Bar" Thursday. It works by using cameras and sensors to place people who come up to the bar in a queue; it's like a digital "take a number" system, but based on facial recognition.
People can see where they are by viewing themselves on a screen (with a number above their head, depicting their place in line). Bartenders will know who to serve by consulting a tablet that has pictures of all the people, in order of who they should serve first. Apple suspends program that let humans listen in to Siri conversations
Last week, The Guardian broke the news that Apple lets contractors listen to snippets of Siri recordings, often hearing confidential conversations including "medical information, drug deals, and recordings of couples having sex." Apple confirmed the existence of the program, called "grading," and said it was part of its quality control for Siri.
Now, however, TechCrunch reports Apple will be suspending the program globally.
“While we conduct a thorough review, we are suspending Siri grading globally. Additionally, as part of a future software update, users will have the ability to choose to participate in grading," the company said in a statement to the outlet. Read more...

'The Church in the Darkness' turns cult worship into a thoughtful stealth game
I knew this was a dangerous place for my brother to stay, but he wouldn't listen to reason.
