Hilarious meme reveals the 'real' names of your favorite celebrities

TwitterFacebook

It's been over a year since the good people of Twitter were shocked to learn that Jamie Foxx's real name is actually Eric Marlon Bishop.

Foxx is one of many famous faces to employ new names upon entering certain echelons of Hollywood — but in a hilarious meme, fans are using celebrity stage names to guess the "real" names behind the star.

For example, Ice Cube was born O'Shea Jackson Sr., but if you ask Twitter this week, his "real name" is Icelandic Cubicle. Hence, the nickname Ice Cube.

Inside the cult of Ann Dowd: 'The Handmaid's Tale' actress offers a masterclass in the art of antagonists

TwitterFacebook

Some spoilers for Compliance, True Detective: Season 1, The Leftovers, The Handmaid's Tale, and Hereditary lie ahead.

Hollywood's go-to malicious missionary, Ann Dowd, knows a thing or two about indoctrinating audiences. With over 30 years of stage, film, and television experience, Dowd has assumed the roles of politicians, doctors, mothers, FBI agents, and—as of late—lots and lots of cult members.

Gaining prominence in Hulu's The Handmaid's Tale, the notorious character actress has earned a reputation, as well as an Emmy, for getting into the minds of antagonistic zealots and delivering disturbingly convincing performances. Read more...

People are really loving Tess Holliday's Cosmo cover

TwitterFacebook

While some would argue that we've come a long way when it comes to representation and diversity in the media, it is still not every day you see a size 22 woman on the cover of a major publication.

That's why the October issue of Cosmopolitan UK is already getting a lot of buzz, despite not having hit the stands yet.

The cover girl is supermodel Tess Holliday. Dressed in a swimsuit, Holliday poses on the cover blowing a kiss to all the fat-shamers out there. The headline reads "Tess Holliday wants the haters to kiss her ass." Read more...

Hey look, another new QWERTY-equipped BlackBerry for Kim Kardashian to buy

TwitterFacebook

As decent as the BlackBerry Key 2 is, it's really not worth spending $650 on when there are better phones like the OnePlus 6 that cost less.

TCL Communications, the company behind the BlackBerry Key series, has heard the cries of the people and has announced a cheaper Key 2 LE coming in September, which'll start at a more affordable $399.

At a lower price, you're probably wondering what corners TCL cut to shave down the price. Although the display is the same 4.5-inch LCD touchscreen with 1,620 x 1,080 resolution, almost everything else about the Key 2 LE has been downgraded. Read more...

With three new iPhones on the way, Apple is reportedly in a 'naming conundrum'

TwitterFacebook

The end of August is nigh, which means we're getting closer to the mother of all tech reveals: the September Apple product unveilings.

More details have emerged about what's up Apple's sleeve this time around, per a new report from Bloomberg. The information comes via "people familiar with the matter."

Bloomberg's report confirms a lot of what we already anticipated, largely thanks to government filings and information from prodigious Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo. That is, there will be three new models: an upgraded iPhone X, an iPhone X with a bigger 6.5 inch screen, and a cheaper version of the X. That more affordable model will have an LCD screen and aluminum edges, instead of the X's stainless steel casing and OLED screen. Read more...

Sacha Baron Cohen's 'Who Is America' skips much-hyped Sarah Palin interview

TwitterFacebook

Sacha Baron Cohen's jarring Who Is America concluded Sunday without airing a much talked-about interview with former Alaska governor and Vice Presidential nominee Sarah Palin. It did, however, include a special thanks for Palin as "Special Publicity Consultant (Inadvertent.)"

Palin spoke out about her interview when Cohen's show premiered and it became clear that his undercover interactions with politicians during production were intended to embarrass them.

"Yup – we were duped," she wrote in a Facebook post before challenging Cohen to air the footage anyway.

'Donut County' turns trash collecting and gaslighting into a perfect punchline

TwitterFacebook

"What is a donut without a hole?"

That's Roma, the larger of the two talking donkeys (I'm pretty sure they're donkeys) that make up Donut County's premiere power couple.

"Wow, good question," BK, a talking raccoon and the proprietor of the local donut eatery, replied. "We should really stop to ponder this for as long as possible."

The raccoon is deflecting. No one realizes it except Mira, his human and employee and sort-of-friend.

But before she can say anything, Coco spoke up. The bright green talking alligator (or is it a crocodile?) seems to be a local source of wisdom. When Coco speaks, folks listen. Read more...

Holy calamari: Giant squid washes up on New Zealand beach

TwitterFacebook

Lots of weird things wash up on beachesSea potatoesA very old message in a bottleUnidentifiable sea creatures.

But by golly, this is one huge squid.

The 4.5 metre (14 foot, 9 inch) long cephalopod washed up on the south coast of Wellington, New Zealand on Sunday morning, its size easily eclipsing the mere mortals that dare to lie beside it.

Brothers Daniel, Jack, and Matthew Aplin told Newstalk ZB that they were looking for a place to dive when they spotted the creature.

"My brother said 'what's that over there?' and pointed it out," Daniel told the radio station. "It was right next to the track so we pulled over and we were like: 'It's a big squid'." Read more...

Disneyland's 'Star Wars' cantina will serve booze to all us lowlife smugglers

TwitterFacebook

Like Han Solo in the iconic cantina scene in Star Wars: A New Hope, we're sorry about the mess. And we're taking the shot first.

That's right, folks, the upcoming Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge park expansion to Disneyland is serving alcohol. We couldn't imagine recreating the sleazy intergalactic dive bar filled with smugglers and bounty hunters any other way.

Disney made the welcome announcement on the park's blog on Thursday, Aug. 30. The company also offered up some new concept art for the highly anticipated Black Spire Outpost expansion, which opens in 2019.  Read more...

How an anti-Semitic slur made its way onto maps across the internet

TwitterFacebook

Snapchat users were greeted with an alarming change to Snap Maps this morning: New York City had been renamed “Jewtropolis.”

Even worse, social media was filled reports of maps on other websites and services with the same change, including Zillow, The Weather Channel, Citibike, and Streeteasy.

Whatever mapping service that Snapchat, CitiBike, StreetEasy, (perhaps others) use — it seems — is showing New York City as "Jewtropolis" this morningpic.twitter.com/nsVe8goLyo

Couldn't find a way to report directly to @streeteasy or @zillow or @openstreetmap so here's a screen shot of a condo located in "Jewtropolis". Assuming they've been hacked. Might want to get on that and fix it#Antisemitic @ADL_National pic.twitter.com/Z36GdrzLo9
